Furlough Scheme Extended to September 2021

The British government announced an extension to the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme to help ease the burden on businesses over the next several months. The scheme was set to expire in April, but as businesses continue to remain closed and need additional support, the scheme has been extended to September 2021.

Under the new extension, employers will pay 10% of employee hours not worked until July, and then pay 20% of employee hours not worked in August and September. The government also announced new extensions for self-employed workers as well, with the Self-Employment Income Support Scheme extended to September as well.

Payroll processing is getting more complicated with the new furlough extensions, so it is important to stay ahead of the regulations and HMRC requirements. If your team is struggling to manage payroll due to the new extension, it may be helpful to seek advice from compliance professionals to ensure your process is accurate.
